Privacy Policy
1. Who we are
Quiz Master provides quiz hosting and related tools. For data protection enquiries you can contact us at support@quiz-master.co.uk. If you use the contact or support forms, we will process the details you send us to respond to your request.
2. Data we collect
Depending on how you use the service, we may process:
- Account data — for example email address, username, and authentication details if you register or sign in (including via third-party providers where you choose that option).
- Quiz session data — for example quiz identifiers, player display names, scores, and related session information needed to run a live quiz.
- Technical data — for example IP address, browser type, and similar information sent by your device and recorded in server logs for security and reliability.
- Preferences — settings you save in your account (for example slideshow or display preferences).
- Store and purchases — records of quizzes or add-ons you have added or purchased where applicable.
3. How we use your data and legal bases (UK GDPR)
We process personal data where necessary to perform our contract with you (providing the service you asked for), where we have a legitimate interest (for example securing the site, preventing abuse, and improving reliability), or where you have given consent (for example non-essential cookies and personalised advertising, where you opt in via our cookie controls).
4. Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies and similar technologies for purposes such as:
- Strictly necessary — for example to keep you logged in, maintain quiz sessions, and protect the site. These do not rely on consent where they are strictly necessary to provide a service you request.
- Functional — to remember certain preferences.
- Analytics — only if you allow this in our cookie banner (where implemented).
- Advertising — only if you allow this; third parties such as Google may use cookies or similar technologies to show or measure ads.
You can change your choices at any time using Cookie settings in the site footer (where available).
5. Google services
We may use Google services that process data according to Google’s policies, for example:
- Google AdSense (or similar) to show advertisements. Google uses cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits or other data. See how Google uses data in Google’s advertising policies and privacy materials.
- Google reCAPTCHA on some forms to reduce spam and abuse.
- Sign-in with Google if you choose that login option.
- Google Fonts where themes load fonts from Google’s servers (your device may connect to Google when those fonts load).
We implement Google Consent Mode defaults so that ad-related storage is not enabled until you consent where required.
6. International transfers
Some providers may process data outside the UK. Where we rely on providers that transfer data internationally, we aim to use appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) where required by applicable law.
7. Retention
We keep data only as long as needed for the purposes above, including legal, accounting, or security requirements, and then delete or anonymise it where appropriate.
8. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you may have rights including to access, rectify, erase, restrict or object to certain processing, and to complain to the ICO (Information Commissioner’s Office). You may exercise rights by contacting us at the email above. If we rely on consent, you can withdraw consent at any time (without affecting prior processing that was lawful).
9. Children
Our service is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe we have, please contact us.
10. Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date will change when we do. Continued use of the site after changes means you accept the updated policy where permitted by law.
11. Ads.txt
We may publish an ads.txt file at the root of this site to declare authorised digital sellers, as required or recommended by advertising programmes.
